Established in 1988, the mission of the Cedar Park Neighbors Scholarship Committee is to recognize and encourage young adults living in the Cedar Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia who are committed to pursuing higher education and provide them with both mentorship and financial support to help them be successful in their post-secondary endeavors.
CPN renamed this the Gary Bronson Memorial Scholarship in 2015 in honor of our visionary neighbor and friend, who founded this scholarship 29 years ago.
In 2017 we raised over $11,000 and funded 9 students with cash scholarships to help defray some of the incidental costs of attendance. During the school year the committee reaches out to the students via calls, emails and care packages at finals. We also host a Winter Social over their winter breaks to have a chance to reconnect in a relaxed setting.
Each year after the awards ceremony in July we have an intimate reception for the awardees, their guests and the committee to celebrate their accomplishments and begin to connect with each other and the members of the committee.
The committee raises funds through contributions from our neighbors and an annual fundraiser held each spring. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to reapply each year they are enrolled in post-secondary education and are also encouraged to participate in neighborhood activities.
Generally, we have a fundraiser in April, scholarship applications/re-applications are available by mid-June with a deadline at the end of June. Awardees are notified by the end of the first week in July and the awards ceremony is in mid-July. We try to have it during the intermission at the Friday night Jazz series, weather permitting.

The committee is always seeking new members. For additional information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Consider a donation to the Scholarship Committee, which goes directly to our recipients through scholarship funds, gift baskets, and receptions. Any amount helps!
